I finished my witchy mini quilt:

The piece has its quirks–I had trouble keeping the pieced border from warping terribly, but I’m proud of it regardless. It’s the first sewing project I designed from start to finish. I learned a lot along the way and can fairly confidently say, I’ll be designing new things soon. It’s liberating to break away from someone else’s patterns!

The family’s headed off on an adventure tomorrow. We’ll be visiting the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival and doing a little bit of camping. The kids are excited…especially about roasting marshmallows. Have a great weekend!

So, as I was putting the finishing touches on the Wee Wonderful Stitchettes pictured in the previous post, I got it into my head that it would be fun to stitch up something for one of the upcoming holidays…Halloween perhaps. I started sketching, and ended up with these:

Hillary Lang’s influence is undeniable, which is probably why I think they’re so darn cute. I can hardly wait to get started on them. I think they’d make wonderful panels for wall hangings or decorations for goodie bags.
You’re welcome to stitch them too, and if you do, I’d really love to see your work!

N.B. Please do not sell items made using my designs. Thank you.

Thank you for all of the positive vibes you sent our way for Sam’s surgery yesterday. It went very well and he’s healing up faster than I can believe. He actually wanted to ride his bike yesterday evening. Sadly, I had to tell him “no,” since he’s not supposed to do anything very physical for 4-5 days afterwards. The next few days are going to be a challenge–in a very good way. I’m glad he’s not feeling listless or sick–and we still have a full bottle of the pain medicine.
I finished my third Stitchette (the girl with the umbrella):

I plan on stitching one more…and then…what? I’m not sure what to do with them. A throw pillow? A wall hanging? Frame them?
I also finished slogging through a set of photos I took at a wedding we attended last week. Claire was one of five flower girls. They were all very pretty and made the celebration really fun with their antics.
