Stash Busting
Sewing / Posted on January 24th, 2011
I’m fortunate to have amassed a great amount of craft/sewing supplies; unfortunately, I can’t find my way around my sewing room on account of the mess, so I have been trying to put some of those materials to good use. Throughout this month, I have been hard at work sewing with knit fabrics. First across the finish line was this comfy Burda Turtleneck, pattern #09-2110-121:
The generous fit and long sleeves have made this a favorite of mine. For it, I used a sooooft organic baby rib in a pale grey. It goes with a lot of things!
Next, I popped some black thread in my sewing machines and whipped up several tops and a pair of yoga pants (not pictured because they’re boring to look at–but comfy).
Jalie Sweetheart top, made from a crazy top I never wore.
Kwik Sew T-shirt. This is as basic as it can get, so I expect to get a lot of use out of it. The original pattern had long sleeves, which I liked, but I didn’t have enough fabric, so I shortened the sleeves.
Jalie Scarf Collar Knit Top. I fell in love with this fabric and had to have it. The print and colors are fantastic. Unfortunately, the fabric turned out to be a bear to work with, especially at the hemming stage. I don’t know how long this top will hold up, but I like it. When the fabric falls apart in tatters, I’ll make another (or possibly before then), since I really like the style and image it would be fun to sew in a more cooperative fabric.
This is my second Kwik Sew Cowl Neck Top. I love this pattern, especially since I made additional alterations at the shoulders, which were too wide for me. This fabric is really nice: thick & soft, with a subtle metallic gleam to the print–not gaudy/shiny–subtle. Love it!

They all look so nice! I’m also working on stash busting and I plan to use the Kwik Sew cowl neck and the Jalie scarf patterns.

love the Jalie sweetheart top – both the silhouette and the fabric! The graphic pattern really makes it pop.
