We are NOT Amused

Cooking, Personal, Sewing / Posted on December 18th, 2009

At the risk of sounding like a curmudgeon, I’m going to just come right out and say this week has sucked. Totally.

1) The pipes in the garage burst and the garage turned into an ice rink. I wish I still had my ice skates! Luckily, a plumber came over and took care of the pipes. Unfortunately for us, we’re still cleaning up the mess: soaked rugs and all the junk one usually stores in garages.

2) I’ve always liked Pyrex dishes, but something must have been wrong with the most recent one I purchased. After using it in the oven last night, it exploded, that’s right EXPLODED in my kitchen. I ended up tossing the chicken picata I had labored over and which smelled ridiculously good. We went out for teriyaki–which, while good, was not as good as homemade chicken picata.

3) I had bad hair today. Perhaps it’s not a big deal, but it annoyed me nonetheless.

4) My favorite necklace broke.

5) I ruined some fabric I had been ga-ga over by making a top designed for people with shoulders. It didn’t matter that I altered the pattern significantly. It’s still prone to falling off and therefore unacceptable. GRRRRRRRR.

Next week will be better, right?

I made that top, and I think you should take it in with a back seam, at least at the yoke. Hopefully, that will help it stay up. It really is a kewl fabric!

Gorgeous fabric, love the pout (or not :-) ) It’s a cool top too, surely there is a way to make it work (like Mary said).

It IS a really cute top.

I had a pyrex dish explode about ten years ago and I swore them off for a LONG time. I just recently bought one again… a pie plate.

I remember Jacob in his walker in the kitchen doorway, I was in our tiny kitchen when the pan exploded… shards of glass stuck in to the walls. Fortunately neither of us got hurt.

The sound of it was traumatizing to me, too! I’m still deathly afraid of explosions because of the pyrex incident.

I hope you have a GOOD weekend and a GREAT week. Chin up!

Oh no! I’m so sorry- the week before Christmas shouldn’t be that rough.

What about adding lingerie straps that hook around your bra straps? That way it can’t possibly fall off your shoulders. Just a bit of ribbon (or twill tape) with a tiny snap to form a loop, attached at the shoulder seam.

This technique is in a variety of books, especially couture sewing ones. I just can’t think offhand where I last saw it.

I absolutely love that fabric! It would be a shame to give up on the top.

Amy, I’m so sorry you had a bad week. There was a thread on PR about exploding pyrex, although I’ve never seen it happen personally. I agree that the top is too fab to get rid of. I like the idea of lingerie straps. That way you can keep that TDF fabric. Oh, and next week has to be better. It’s filled with Christmas magic.

You have had a terrible week! day! I really like the fabric you used in the top and it looks like it fits you oky but you are the wearer and that makes all the difference. Perhaps when you are having a better day/week, you might find a way to salvage the top!

I love that fabric and have some where I made a skirt I will never wear. Right now it’s hanging up where eventually I will make something out of it that I will. It’s awful when it happens and you really like the fabric to boot.

    Sorry your week is rough.
