Corduroy Jacket

Jacket

I’m excited. I finished my first lined jacket and learned so much from tackling this challenging project.

I’m also annoyed because it doesn’t fit as nicely as my muslin suggested it would. It’s too snug across the chest. I’m uncertain if this was caused by poor sewing or if the thicker fabric and lining naturally reduced the amount of ease.

All is not lost though. I had my petite sister-in-law try on the jacket and it fits her perfectly…and she seemed to like it, so I gave it to her. It’s one thing for me to like the results of my sewing. It’s a completely different thing to have someone else excited about wearing something I made. In fact, it’s such a wonderful feeling that I’m almost glad it didn’t work out for me!

Wow! It looks smashing and I never would have thought it was a ‘homemade’ jacket. All you need to do is tweak the size a wee bit and you’ll have a really wonderful, wearable jacket.

So cute – your corduroy jacket is both practical and gorgeous – happy combination … I’m glad it found a new home but if it were me I would have worn it unbuttoned!

Unless your lining is silk it probably won’t ease up much – synthetic is woven more tightly and has less give than natural fibres – your corduroy – being cotton – would have given plenty (eventually).

I once sewed a lining too tightly – and then I unpicked it – sewed it to some satin bias tape and sewed the bias tape to the facings – it worked really well and gave me more movement. There’s nothing worse than tight lining – talk about feeling like a cased sausage.
