Critical Mass

I’m on a mission. It has been brought to my attention that my stash has reached critical mass and immediate action must be taken.

Here’s where the numerous “quick-n-easy” projects I’ve been queuing up for the past couple of years (and have been ignoring since the sexier “time-consuming-n-hard” projects had my full attention) will prove very useful indeed. They may be quick and they may be easy, but they also require a lot of fabric and notions.

My stash doesn’t consist merely of nice lengths of pristine fabric. Part of the stash is made up of my husband’s cast-off clothing and crazy thrift store finds…like vintage bed sheets.

I used up half a queen-sized bed sheet to make this nightgown:

It’s imperfect. I don’t like where the empire seam sits on my body, but that’s ok. The fabric is so incredibly soft I can forgive any faults of the design.

I couldn’t make heads or tails of the instructions for finishing the neck edge, so I simply bound it with bias tape. I think it looks nice! Using Wash-Away Wonder Tape helped keep the binding smooth while I sewed. I love that stuff!

I’ve made that nightgown (sleeveless). I like it a lot, but definitely have the same issue with the bodice. Next time I make it (out of a repurposed sheet) I’ll make the bodice a size smaller and lengthen it by about an inch. I used the bias tape as facing for the neck and armholes.

Cute nightgown! You appear to be quite good at sewing now.

Yay for easy sewing. I’m all for it!

Now you’ve got me eyeing the flatsheets accumulating in the house. At first, I thought, why not turn them into pillowcases? Boring. But hey, now you’ve given me the idea of making matching PJ bottoms!
