Too Darned Hot
General, Sewing / Posted on July 30th, 2009
It’s too freaking hot to sew. It was 104 degrees Farenheit yesterday and we don’t have air conditioning. I’m grumpy from lack of sleep and being uncomfortable in my skin. I’m irritated because I want to be gettin’ stuff done, but am too lethargic to actually do it. Moreover, we’ve been watching a Showtime program called Dexter and it’s really creepy. It has been giving me nightmares…so, why am I excited to see the next episode?
I’m considering running away to Antarctica. The penguins look like they’d be good company. And, as far as I know, they’re don’t have TV sets, so I won’t be tempted to watch creepy programs.
Just for the heck of it, I thought I’d show you my sewing space. Unlike many others I’ve seen around blogland, it’s tiny. I don’t have a huge room dedicated to my craft; instead, I have a small corner of our office jam-packed with sewing stuff.
I struggle to keep all my paraphenalia somewhat orderly, but it’s really a losing battle. As the saying goes, “Creativity is born out of chaos.”
Here’s Chaos:
This is the tidied up version of chaos. It’s still very dangerous to open that door. Hard hats should be required of anyone attempting to do so!
Well, back to wallowing in self-pity…I’m counting the days to next Wednesday, when it’s supposed to get back to typical Seattle temperatures!

Sigh. I feel for you–truly. Seeing pictures of you wearing long sleeves in yesterday’s post was a bit much for me to look at in this ridiculous heat. Stay cool!

You’re making good use of every inch of your sewing space! I see you have a Bernina. I’m thinking of purchasing the 440QE. How do you like yours? Do you quilt with it? I would love to hear your feedback.
I’m in Florida and it is amazing to me that it’s so much cooler here than it is in NorthWest. I can’t imagine not having a/c. It’s also pouring down rain here every day which keeps things humid but it does cool things down. Hang in there!

Your whole setup is awesome–right by the window, too. I love your sewing table! Did you DIY this? Show us more pictures, please!

I’ve got a space like that! We call it “Katinka’s Kraft Krap Kloset”.

Hello, my sister stumbled onto your blog and let me know about it. She said, “Angela you’ve got to look at Quixotic Pixels, she reminds me so much of you.” I’ve been looking at all your posts and she was right. I am a long time sewer, fabroholic, quilter, baker, book lover, garden goddess, etc… I live in Orting, WA and work from home doing long arm machine quilting. I owned a quilt shop in Nevada for 5 years, and me and my husband and two sons 16 and 13 recently moved back to Washington. I understand your addiction to sewing. Your descriptions sound so familiar. I too started out sewing clothing, and I still sew a little bit for myself especially skirts. I love sewing for the home, like curtains, pillows, slipcovers, tablecloths etc.. but when I found quilting I really got hooked. Keep up your passions! I could never imagine a life without creativity.

Dexter rocks – unfortunately in the UK we have to wait for some time before we get the latest series. But it is one of my favorite shows.
