This is what I saw when I looked in the mirror this morning.
I quickly got ready to drive to the hairdresser’s. (Paper bags are much better cover ups, since one can cut out holes for eyes…but, I am being environmentally conscientious here…)
After a couple of hours at the salon, I looked in the mirror and saw something like this. Actually, it was better, since my hair was a little fluffier. Two minutes after leaving the salon, it went back to its natural state: limp.
Still, I like it and Robert likes it. Claire doesn’t. She thinks it’s too “small.” But to her, no hairstyle is good unless it looks good with a tiara.
Button Skirt
Sewing February 2nd, 2009
Sometimes, a person needs a surefire success. I was exasperated with projects failing to turn out as I had envisioned them, so I turned to one of my reliable Favorite Things patterns, Hip Skirts, and whipped up this fair weather skirt in just a couple of hours. I can hardly wait for it to get warmer out. I just know I’m going to wear it all the time. Simple, comfortable and pretty.
This series of goofy photos reminded me that I’m in serious need of a haircut. Good gawd it looks shaggy. I’m making an appointment today, lol.
25 Random Things About Me
Personal February 1st, 2009
This is a meme that’s been making the rounds on Facebook. I thought I’d post my list here as well.
1. I have a birthmark on my left knee (so does my husband).
2. When I was 18, I bicycled through northern France.
3. I played the French horn when I was in high school.
4.. I enjoy baking bread by hand. I have never had a good loaf of bread from a bread machine.
5. I taught seventh grade English for one year and loved it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t afford rent and groceries on the salary.
6. I met my husband online.
7. I was raised as a Catholic. At one time, I considered becoming a nun.
8. I’ve never done anything adventurous with my hair. I fantasize about dyeing it crazy colors. One day, I’ll actually do it.
9. I have a weakness for coffee, chocolate, kung fu movies and fantasy novels.
10. I love opera. Don Giovanni is one of my favorites.
11. When I first started shopping for a DSLR, my family laughed at me and couldn’t imagine what I’d want with a camera like that. I’m glad I didn’t listen to them. I enjoy photography immensely.
12. I enjoy decorating birthday cakes. The more elaborate, the better.
13. I never envisioned becoming a stay-at-home mom, but here I am and I love it.
14. I am a poor sport and avoid cards and board games whenever possible.
15. After 30+ years of fantasizing about it, I’ve come to realize I’ll probably never write the great American novel.
16. I have always wanted a pair of roller blades. Perhaps I’ll buy a pair this summer?
17. I have never wanted to go bungee jumping, parachuting, mountain climbing…I’m just not a thrill seeker!
18. I am a night owl.
19. I used to relate to Jane Austen’s Emma (Penguin Classics) , but now I think I’m more like Anne Elliott (Persuasion ).
20. Anne of Green Gables was my favorite novel when I was 12.
21. I think of myself as a country girl and am still puzzled about how I ended up living in a big city for the past ten years.
22. I knit and sew…but you probably already know that since I talk about both hobbies all the time.
23. I’m terribly shy. My husband is very outgoing. We’re like Jack Sprat and his wife. Opposites attract!
24. I am a fan of Star Trek, but after attending a convention a few years back, I’m not sure I’d want to identify myself as a Trekkie/Trekker. Some of the attendees were far more “out there” than I’ll ever be (or want to be).
25. After being attacked by a husky when I was 16 or 17, I developed a fear of strange dogs. I’m ok around dogs I know, but will go far out of my way to avoid unfamiliar canines…yes, even tiny ankle-biter types (actually, they’re the worst because they tend to bark the most, which sets my heart to racing and my palms to sweating).
