Happy Valentine’s Day!
General February 14th, 2009
Sam and Claire made beautiful valentines for all of their friends at school. They were very excited about the crafting and the parties and the CANDY! I was pretty excited about the candy too and was lucky enough to receive a few pieces from my generous kids.
While most people will be eating chocolate candies and sniffing bouquets of roses, we’ll be riding buses, flying in airplanes and driving vans to California! We’re going there to visit family and to partay. It should be a fun time
Claire and I are stressing out about the dress code at the party venue. I can’t find pantyhose to wear with my dress (although I’ve been informed most people don’t wear pantyhose anymore) and Claire doesn’t know what to do about her hair.
She may be onto something here…
Cassidy! Is! Done!
Knitting February 13th, 2009
It took me a ridiculously long time to finish this cardigan, but it’s done at long last and I’m happy with it.
The cables are pretty, aren’t they? Bonne Marie from Chic Knits really outdid herself with this design.
To be completely honest, though, I have to tell you I’m feeling insecure about the size of the sweater. Most of my cardigans have a lot more ease than this one. In retrospect, I would have done better to knit the next size up. I haven’t figured out why I’m drawn to knit things that are designed to fit closely when I like to wear things that are roomy. I’m just weird that way, I guess!
Anyway, I’m going to take a couple of days off from knitting to let my arms recouperate from the workout they got from finishing this beast. In the meantime, I’ll be plotting what to knit next. Will it be Kate Gilbert’s Sunrise Circle Jacket? (Ravelry Link) I have some pretty dark green tweed set aside for that; however, I’m not sure how that design would look on me, so have been shying away from it.
I also just bought some Dream in Color in Happy Forest, which I could use for any number of things, such as the February Lady Sweater. I’m hesitating over that for two reasons: (1) the design is a lot like Juliet, which I knit recently; (2) that colorway of DIC is very popular for that sweater and I’m not keen on being so unoriginal…yet…it is pretty…
Aren’t I fortuhnate that these weighty matters are all that are on my mind at the moment…well, that and a couple of nightmares I’ve had about grocery shopping with my mother?
We woke up this morning to snow. Not much, just a light dusting really, but it was enough to delay local schools from opening by two hours. That was ok by me, since I’m not a morning person and appreciated the extra time to get going.
Since Robert took the car today, the kids and I walked to school. Normally, it’s a nice journey, but today the fluffy white stuff provided them with continual distraction and I was hard pressed to keep them going so we would make it before the last bell rang. We made it–just in time–and both kids were soaked through and through.
When Claire and I made it back home, she changed into warm, dry clothes and sat down to watch the latest Pingu disc we rented.
I took the opportunity to work on Cassidy, which is nearly complete–but not close enough that I’ll be able to wear it to my knitting meetup tonight. Darn it! A knitter needs to show off their big creations now and then
I still have a ton of seaming to do, a few more inches on the hood and the front bands to work. Still, a new sweater is on the horizon and I’m excited about that!
