Lomo ABC

A B C v.2

Vanilla ABC

I’m finishing up a photography book for my kids and am trying to figure out what direction I want to go in terms of cover art. Which of the above images do you prefer and why? Most people seem to have strong feelings one way or the other, but so far, it’s a draw. I’d really appreciate your feedback!

If you’re interested, the nearly complete set of photos can be viewed here.

I love the first one. It has that ‘looking back in time’ quality. Please let us know how you did this – I have been playing round with some of my pics in photoshop recently and was attempting to do this.

My six year old daughter likes the vanilla image, “because the top one is scrufty, so I like the bottom better.” I like the it as well, purely because the colors are brighter ;)

  3. Katherine says:

I prefer the first one because the ABC really stands out at the top. The Lomo effect pulls the eyes to the centre. I’m not sure if it would be better to use a brighter colour such as a pastel.

I would absolutely buy a copy. It’s a beautiful book. And I like the second one better. Seems to fit better with the rest of the pictures?

  5. Margaret says:

I like the second one better, but I’m having trouble articulating why — the colors ‘fit’ better, but again I’m not sure why. I guess it must have something to do with the set of those magnets that I had when I was little, and the vanilla picture matches my memory of those.

  6. Chas says:

I DEFINITELY like the vanilla better for a children’s book. Too me, the lomo is too edgy for that type of book.

  7. Rebecca says:

I like the vanilla abc the best!

for me it would be best if you use the vanilla abc, since it has a bright color compare to the first one.
and since your target viewer is the kids, and we know all that kids want a brighter color, then the second will greatly appeal to your target viewer.

(just passing by, i am looking for way how to create a photoblog)
    nice project! Thank you.
