I celebrated in a very quiet fashion today…took a nice long nap, played with the kids and doodled around in Photoshop. The best part of the day was when my brother came over. We talked cameras and shared pictures and sat down to a great dinner of take-out Chinese, which is always a treat for me (tastes great – no dishes).
As for gifts, my mother knitted an amulet bag for me out of seed beads. It’s stunning! My brother gave me a much-needed memory card for my camera and Robert shaved off his straggly beard (really a gift to everyone and not just me…beards are nice on some, but do little for Robert besides making him look dirty).

The battery in my trusty Canon G2 is dying. There are no two ways about it. I charge the thing up, take a few pictures and the camera powers down with no warning. It’s become so bad, I can’t even download the photos I took this evening and I’m dying to see a couple of them in their full glory (or total mediocrity…it’s kind of hard to tell in the tiny LCD screen).So, in a fit of vexation and self-indulgence, I purchased a new battery and…a niiiiiice present for my upcoming birthday: an external flash! Woo hoo! I was thinking of going crazy and buying a brand new camera, but after talking to my photo wiz of a brother and to Christine, a fabulous photographer herself, I decided to stick with my G2, learn all I can about it and try out a few accessories. Down the road, I may try wide-angle and telephoto lenses. That’s an exciting prospect!
What I REALLY want to do when I get the new battery and the flash is to take pictures of my kids. They’ve been growing soooo much and I’ve just been too preoccupied to record all their changes and activities. I’ve got a lot of interesting ideas for portraits and some fun excursions planned.
Edited to add: Just got the camera charged up so I could rescue the photos I took earlier. I really like the one I added to this post! It was inspired by pics taken by BoggsParty of Five and Sesame Ellis.

“I’ll have a grande mocha and a piece of that chocolate marble coffee cake,” I said to the Starbuks Barrista. She nodded as she directed her tongs into the pastry case. What a decadent order, I thought to myself, and then confided to the barrista that I REALLY needed a chocolate fix, as if she couldn’t figure that out for herself. She grinned and loudly announced, “that’s all right, it happens to all of us women, about three or four days every month.”
A couple of gentlemen standing behind me in line started sniggering.
Now, what the heck was she going on about? I never said anything about PMS. Are there truly people in the world who only hanker for chocolate once a month? What a concept.
