It's a Wrap

Published by Amy at 1:25 pm under Knitting, Sewing

I hope to start updating more regularly. I have sooo much I want to write about, but sometimes that’s a problem in itself. It’s hard to know where to start!

Quick Jaunt

A couple of weekends ago, we traveled up to Victoria B.C. with my brother-in-law and his boyfriend. We barely made it on the ferry, since we had missed the turn to Anacortes, but some nice people held the ferry for us, so we were able to board.  Claire enjoyed her first trip across the waves:

Unfortunately, by the time we made it to our hotel, it was too late to go to the Butchart Gardens, which was one of the only reasons I wanted to go up there. I would have liked high tea at the Empress Hotel too, but we weren’t dressed for it, and I wouldn’t have wanted to struggle with two overly-tired kids while there.  Victoria is beautiful, but I don’t particulalry enjoy most of the other typical tourist attractions. (I’m not a shopper and have been to my share of local museums.)

Knitting

I’ve also done a little bit of knitting:

This is the start of the back for my Rebecca Wrap cardi. I’ve just made it up to the armhole shapings.  For the rest of you who are knitting this pretty wrap, I have a couple of words of advice:

First, DON’T try unraveling a couple of rows while riding the bus. It’s one thing to undo a few stitches one at a time with this mohair. It’s quite another experience if you’re a Fearless Frogger ™ like myself and just yank the needle out from all the stitches and start ripping.  This stuff likes to tangle up, and when you go over bumps (mountains) in the middle of the freeway, or when your brake-happy driver really over does it, well, the stuff REALLY snarls up.

Secondly, DON’T be a polite commuter and let just anyone sit next to you while knitting this delicate confection.  Some obviously overworked drone sat down next to me last night and proceeded to fall asleep. That would have been ok, except he kept falling over so his head was practically on my shoulder. I was REALLY tempted to poke him with a needle.

Other than that, this seems to be a fairly simple knit and I should finish it before the year’s out (at my usual break-neck pace).

Don’t even mention Audrey to me. We’re not on speaking terms.

Funny Kid Tricks

Sam has a unique way of constructing the past tense. Most kids I know, say things like “Claire waked up.” Sam has to be different. He says, “Claire wake up already,” or “I brush my teeth already, “ or “Kitty kiss me already.”

Claire is also developing her communication skills. She can say “bye-bye,” “up,” and “uh-oh.” This is how she tells us she wants something to eat:

There’s no mistaking that, now is there?
