Couch Potato

My back and upper neck have seized up. I’m uncertain whether this is due to picking up heavy babies, knitting, or extended computer use at poorly set up work stations. Most likely, my agony was created by a combination of the three. I’m trying not to give into despair.

According to my distorted perspective, remaining relatively inactive for five days should mean I’ve made a complete recovery. I don’t feel one whit better than I did five days ago. People with a more realistic view have informed me that it will probably take about three or four weeks for me to recover fully.

I want to bury my head in the sand.

It’s driving me crazy not being able to knit! It’s also driving me crazy that I haven’t been able to work on the web design projects I’ve got lined up. I don’t want to let people down.

So, in an effort to cheer myself up—and to also take the first steps necessary to make sure this problem wouldn’t occur again in the future, I took my husband furniture shopping. We had only planned on buying a new computer desk and chair, but while we were in the store, we discovered the perfect couch. I don’t know how to convey to you exactly how miraculous this discovery was. Our current couch is the bane of our existence. It looks like hell…even Robert, who normally wouldn’t notice such things, has commented on how stained and ratty it is. What’s worse, is there are springs in the backrest which poke the unwary in the spine.

We’ve hated our couch for a long time. In fact, we’ve been looking for a new one for over two years. Two years! And then yesterday, when we weren’t even looking for one, it presented itself to us. We’re very excited. In fact, we don’t know how we’re going to last four to six weeks before we can take it home. In the meantime, we’ve started plotting ways to dispose of Evil Couch Thing. You’d be frightened to see the gleam in our eyes when we discuss taking a chain saw to it or using it for target practice with my father-in-law’s old hunting rifles…

Oh yes, I also got a new desk and computer chair. The desk won’t be available for another week or two, but I got to test out my new chair this morning. It’s very comfy indeed.
