Too sick to write anything meaningful, although we have done a lot of fun things lately, which I’m looking forward to sharing with you. Will be back as soon as I get over this cold. :yuck:

Happy Fourth!

Uncategorized July 7th, 2004

It was so hard to get out of bed this morning and prepare for a day of work after having such a lovely weekend! The weather was gorgeous, the kids were happy…it was just perfect.

On Saturday morning, Robert went in to work his shift for the program we recently signed up for: Month of Meals. It’s a really clever business scheme to make life easier for busy families. Once a month, you go to a commercial kitchen and spend a few hours cooking and packaging meals. You then take home your portion of the food you helped prepare. This is going to mean an immense improvement in our diet. We’ll no longer have to subsist on frozen pizzas and sandwiches. Now we’ll have gourmet meals six nights a week!

We tried our first meal on the fourth: plank grilled salmon with fruit salsa. I think you can tell from Sam’s expression what the general verdict was:

Sam E.T.
Bon appetit!

After dining, we packed everyone up into the car and drove north to Everett where we enjoyed a brilliant fireworks display. This was a break in tradition for us. For the past four years or so, we have gone to Gasworks Park to watch the fireworks over Lake Union. You can see some of my photos of last year’s show here. While it has to be the best show around, we didn’t want to brave the crowds with a tiny infant in tow. It was much easier for us to head to the smaller show where we would be able to find parking nearby.

My brother and Robert convinced me that it was okay to drink beer in a public park. I had my doubts about that (being a scaredy-cat), but thought popping the top off one would be the patriotic thing to do–we were there to CELEBRATE after all. Wouldn’t you know it, the park warden caught us in the act and gave us a warning. I could have died of embarrassment!

Such a rebel.

On Sunday, we packed a picnic and headed to Wallingford park where we met with some stitch-n-bitchers and their kiddos. We had hoped that they would fill the wading pool around noon, but that never happened. It was too bad, since there were quite a few kids standing around with their swimsuits on and their water toys in hand. Sam didn’t have a clue what he was missing out on and spent hours climbing on the jungle gym and spinning on the merry-go-round. He gave us quite a scare on a couple of occasions since he has no fear of heights and/or gravity. He didn’t stand still long enough for me to snap a picture of him, but here’s his sister enjoying her day out in the park:

Claire in her Chair
[Oops. Forgot to upload photo of Claire at the picnic. Will do so when I get home. Will this tide you over?]

Even though we kept her in the shade and smeared sunblock all over her, she got a blotchy little sunburn. She doesn’t seem to mind, thank goodness.

I knit to my heart’s content this weekend. You can find proof of my productivity over at the Purlygirls Weblog.

Anouk Envy

Uncategorized July 2nd, 2004

Hillary, one of the members of the knitting group I belong to, has just completed a very cute version of Anouk. She chose to use navy blue as the background color and replaced the intarsia flowers with a couple of pretty daisies. I can’t believe this is only her third project! It’s fantastic.

But who really cares about the pinafore. Her little girl is adorable! :babybonnet:
