Needing Some TLC

I seem to be cursed lately.

Robert and I were really excited to take Sam to the zoo on Saturday because Spiderman would be making an appearance to celebrate the opening of a new spider exhibit. Sam loves Spiderman. We absolutely had to go.

We arrived at the zoo at 9:30 in the morning, right when it was opening and took the time to wander from exhibit to exhibit. The animals are quite active at that time of day. The most exciting moment was when a male and female lion got into a fight. Their snarling and roaring is definitely intimidating. We also enjoyed seeing the gorillas. Sam was impressed with how big the adult male gorillas were. I couldn’t help but feel some sort of kinship with a mama gorilla who was carrying her baby around on her back. The spider exhibit was also very cool—if you’re not frightened by enormous arachnids, some of which aren’t even kept behind a glass pane. Yes, if you were foolish enough, you could actually reach out and touch the spider. Yikes.

We thought we had plenty of time to get in line for Spiderman, but apparently every other parent in the city was smarter than we were and lined up well before he was due to make his appearance. We ended up at the very end of an extremely long line and had to wait in the hot sun for over an hour. Sam did well for most of the wait, but freaked out during the last five minutes or so. He was just too tired to care anymore. Of course, once it was his turn to have his picture taken with Spiderman, he was too scared to do so. Robert had to carry him up to the superhero and I snapped a couple of really bad photos of my unhappy child.

That wasn’t fun. Sunday was no better. Somehow, the headlights on the car had been left on over night and its battery died. We weren’t able to run the many errands we had on our list until much later in the day. Of course, at that time, the children were tired and not in the mood to be carted around town.

I thought that once the weekend were over, things would get better, but so far that hasn’t been the case either. I ran over a little duckling this morning on my way to drop the kids off at daycare. Several ducklings were waddling across the road and I didn’t see them until it was too late. I still feel like crying. It makes me sick to think that I killed such a cute little thing. Poor little ducky. :ducky: :brokenheart:

My only accomplishment this weekend worth mentioning is that I created a web site for the PurlyGirls, the local knitting group I belong to. At the meeting tonight, I hope to take some photos of the projects people are working on. It’s a very talented group of people!
