I seem to be cursed lately.

Robert and I were really excited to take Sam to the zoo on Saturday because Spiderman would be making an appearance to celebrate the opening of a new spider exhibit. Sam loves Spiderman. We absolutely had to go.

We arrived at the zoo at 9:30 in the morning, right when it was opening and took the time to wander from exhibit to exhibit. The animals are quite active at that time of day. The most exciting moment was when a male and female lion got into a fight. Their snarling and roaring is definitely intimidating. We also enjoyed seeing the gorillas. Sam was impressed with how big the adult male gorillas were. I couldn’t help but feel some sort of kinship with a mama gorilla who was carrying her baby around on her back. The spider exhibit was also very cool—if you’re not frightened by enormous arachnids, some of which aren’t even kept behind a glass pane. Yes, if you were foolish enough, you could actually reach out and touch the spider. Yikes.

We thought we had plenty of time to get in line for Spiderman, but apparently every other parent in the city was smarter than we were and lined up well before he was due to make his appearance. We ended up at the very end of an extremely long line and had to wait in the hot sun for over an hour. Sam did well for most of the wait, but freaked out during the last five minutes or so. He was just too tired to care anymore. Of course, once it was his turn to have his picture taken with Spiderman, he was too scared to do so. Robert had to carry him up to the superhero and I snapped a couple of really bad photos of my unhappy child.

That wasn’t fun. Sunday was no better. Somehow, the headlights on the car had been left on over night and its battery died. We weren’t able to run the many errands we had on our list until much later in the day. Of course, at that time, the children were tired and not in the mood to be carted around town.

I thought that once the weekend were over, things would get better, but so far that hasn’t been the case either. I ran over a little duckling this morning on my way to drop the kids off at daycare. Several ducklings were waddling across the road and I didn’t see them until it was too late. I still feel like crying. It makes me sick to think that I killed such a cute little thing. Poor little ducky. :ducky: :brokenheart:

My only accomplishment this weekend worth mentioning is that I created a web site for the PurlyGirls, the local knitting group I belong to. At the meeting tonight, I hope to take some photos of the projects people are working on. It’s a very talented group of people!

Smooch: Aaaalmoooost done. Just a few measly rows to knit and then the seaming party begins!. I’ve only been working at this in fits and starts because the cotton yarn is aggravating my sore wrist and elbow, but I am determined to finish it in the next couple of days. I’m starting to have my doubts about whether or not it will fit. It’s looking rather itsy-bitsy. I also knit the neckline just as the pattern directed me to. Now it’s looking extremely low. Say hello to my belly button.

Air: I still have to do the shoulder shaping on the back. I think I’m just going to do the standard bind-off shaping and move on. I don’t want to fiddle with short rows and moss stitch right now. I think I’ll work on the sleeves next to get them out of the way.

Felted Tote #1: I’m VERY close to finishing this. I haven’t posted any photos of it, because it’s just a shapeless sack…not visually exciting at all, but my mother likes it, so I’m sticking with it. I’m planning on attaching a decorative button such as those in the photo of the sample bags. I’m not sure where to begin looking for something like that, so suggestions are welcome!

Ballet Top: I haven’t blogged about this new project yet. I’m knitting the ballet top from Zoe Mellor’s book Adorable Knits for Tiny Tots. I’m using a dusty pink color of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. It’s such a lovely yarn! Very soft and silky feeling. Pictures to come soon.

Everyday Cardigan: Yes, I’m jumping on the bandwagon with this one. I’ve washed my Peace Fleece and knit my swatch. I’m rarin’ to go. I desperately need a replacement for the cardigan I wear around the house all the time. I really should post a picture of that worn out old thing so you can have a good laugh. It’s not the most attractive thing in the world, but I love it. I just don’t wear it in public. :glasses:

Oh yes, I joined Eklectika’s Gerbera along.

Gerbera Along

It starts in September, so there’s plenty of time for you to finish up a few projects and join in on the fun. I haven’t tried Fair-isle knitting before and am hoping that this will be a good introduction to the technique. Most of the sweater is a textured stitch with one Fair-Isle band. I think I’ll be knitting it in charcoal and pewter. Very pretty!
