Will to Blog

Uncategorized March 28th, 2003

So, what happened to my will to blog? I haven’t been very interested in writing at all lately. As a matter of fact, I have been spending a minimal amount of time online. I guess I need a break smile

I broke down and bid on some bedroom linens at ebay last night. I lost one auction, but won another. Tomorrow will tell if I won the third-and the one I’m most excited about. I’ve never really bid on anything before, so this has been an interesting experience.

The linens are in a really pretty old European style. The dominant color is a faded red. The accents are in taupe and off white. Having picked them out, I now have a pretty good idea about how I’m going to decorate our room. We’ll paint the walls a light beige and I’ll stitch up some curtains in coordinating colors. I’d like to use one of those designer curtain rods and it would be really cool if I could find a reasonably priced black iron headboard to match.

Home Decorating

Robert and I are beginning to work on some things around our home that have needed attention for a long time. We’re painting all the rooms first. I’m having a heckuva time picking out colors, but I don’t want to go the boring but safe route of just doing everything in off white. I picked out an interesting golden color to paint a couple of the walls in the living room (the others will probably be the dreaded off-white). Now, I’m having second thoughts about that. The guest room will probably be done up in the pretty light yellow that was there before. I like the way the room looks…it just needs to be freshened up. Our master bedroom is going to be especially difficult. I picked out a light mauve color for the walls–very similar to the color of a fading bruise, but Robert didn’t like it at all. That’s too bad because it went really well with our bedspread. I may just end up picking out a color that both of us like and then sew a comforter cover and curtains to match.

Once you get started on this stuff, new tasks multiply rapidly. *sigh* It’s kind of fun, though, and a nice break from spending all our free time on the Internet.

Can any of you recommend some good resources for decorating on a budget? I need ideas for color schemes, instructions for sewing curtains, bedspreads, etc., resources/ideas for wall hangings… Anything at all would be helpful smile

Busy as a Bee

General March 23rd, 2003

I’ve been soooo busy lately. Work was crazy the last few days. We’re preparing one of our big cases for mediation next week, so there has been a tremendous amount of work to do for that. I missed my lunch break several days running simply because there was too much to do and too little time in which to do it.

I spent three or four hours this morning working in the yard. The weeds were starting to take over everything, and I almost had to wield a machete to walk across the lawn. It looks much better now, but there’s still a lot of work to do before it looks good.

I also started packing up things in our master bedroom, because we’re going to be painting in there pretty soon. While I was doing that, I had to go through a stack of old parenting magazines. I decided to cut out all the recipe sections and put them in a binder. So many of the recipes looked really yummy and fairly simple to prepare. I really need to start planning and preparing healthier meals. I feel bad that none of us are eating as well as we should. Hopefully this project will provide me with much-needed inspiration.
