sick and tired

Sorry for not posting anything in so long. I’ve been sicker than a dog and just not up to doing anything taxing. I took Monday off work and then thought I was well enough on Tuesday to go in. Well, guess what…at about 11:30 or so my headache became worse, I couldn’t swallow, I was coughing endlessly, and I was suffering from chills. Naturally, I decided to go home early, but that meant taking one of the regular route buses instead of the speedy express buses. I would have gotten home much faster had I walked all 204 blocks. That long, long, long ride nearly killed me! It wasn’t improved any by the very smelly alcoholic sitting next to me, either.
Not being any smarter, I tried to go back to work on Wednesday, but called it quits around 11:00 after I threw up a couple of times. It’s so frustrating, because I have a mountain of work to do–and it only gets higher and higher the longer I stay away. Everyone else is too busy with their own work to help me out at all. It drives me crazy to lay in bed all day thinking about all the work I’m not getting done!
Robert, the sweetheart, came and picked me up so I wouldn’t have to brave the bus a second time. He took half a day off to take care of me–at least that’s what he claimed he was doing. He spent most of the day playing video games.
I managed to stick it out the whole day today. I accomplished quite a bit and am feeling more in control of things, thank goodness. Also, one of the younger attorneys I work for told me in his typically bashful fashion that he thought I was doing a great job and that he liked working with me. That cheered me up immeasurably!
I’m so sick of being sick! It seems like I’ve had one cold or another since October. I guess that’s what happens when you aren’t getting nearly as much sleep as you should and you’re trying to do waaaay too much. That’s the life of a working mom for you :p

Robert took this picture this afternoon just after Sam woke up from his nap. I thought it was too funny not to share it with you ![]()

The house is starting to take shape. Most of the rooms are as tidy as they’ve ever been and a couple more only need Robert’s attention. He promised to take care of them. I’m trying my best not to nag.
We finished grocery shopping around noon. Neither one of us had eaten yet and we were starving, so we broke open a bag of Cracker Jacks and ate them on the drive home. Now our car is as messy as our home once was! LOL! Anyway, here’s what’s on the menu for tonight:
- A veggie platter with dip
- Croccantini (thin rosemary crackers)
- Kalamata olive spread
- Roasted red pepper hummus
- French bread
- Salad made from mixed baby greens and tossed in vinaigrette
- Dirty rice
- Chicken etouffe (very easy to make. I haven’t ruined it yet. *g* Knock on wood!)
- Microbrews and a nice white wine
And for dessert, we bought a variety of little tarts (no, not hookers. Sheesh. Where is your mind??? They’re little pastries.)
